KUCHING: 2,000 packs of “Bubur Lambuk” were distributed to the public today in conjunction with the Ramadan fasting month.

Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian along with Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Councillors distributed the savoury porridge at the Ramadan Bazaar next to the Stutong Community Market here.

“This distribution of ‘Bubur’ is a community project organised by MBKS councillor Azizi Morni and this Ramadan bazaar is one of the oldest in Kuching,” Dr Sim told reporters today.

He added that the “Bubur Lambuk” was not just for Muslims but also for the non-Muslims as it was considered a tradition to have it during the fasting month.

Sim pointed out that certain “kuih” (bite-sized snacks or desserts) could only be found at the Ramadan Bazaar.

“I hoped to see more places like these all over the state to reflect the harmony and unity of Sarawakians.

“And you can see, even non-Muslims are busy celebrating this season with the local communities in the villages and urban places,” he said.
