KUCHING: Sarawak shares many similarities than differences with Adelaide and South Australia (SA) in tackling urban renewal, said Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

“While understanding the various challenges faced in tackling urban renewal, we discovered that Sarawak share more similarities than differences with Adelaide and South Australia.

“Mistakes made by others are often invaluable lessons for us not to repeat and which can always guide us,” he said after a courtesy call on Lord Mayor of Adelaide Sandy Verschoor on Monday (Mar 21).

Dr Sim, who is also Public Health, Local Government and Housing Minister, is currently leading a delegation to Australia to learn and understand issues related to urban renewal.

They were briefed by the City of Adelaide and Adelaide Economic Development Agency and chief executive officer of Renewal SA Chris Menz.

Sim said the delegation also conducted site visits to Bowden, Port Adelaide and West Lakes.

“We are grateful to the Department of Trade and Investment of Government of South Australia as well as Honorary Consul General of Malaysia Adelaide Alexander Augustus Pairin Kitingan for the visit,” he added.
