KUCHING: Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s leadership has ushered in an era of unprecedented socio-economic development policies and growth for Sarawak.

Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian noted that it has been a remarkable six years for Sarawak under the Premier’s leadership.

“A truly unprecedented innovative and transformative, forward-looking development and socio-economic policies and implementation (happens now), a safe pair of hands through the unprecedented political turbulence of the past six years in Malaysia – not just a very historical six years but the beginning of a golden era of Sarawak.

“I feel privileged and honoured to be one of the team members,” he said when congratulating Abang Johari on his sixth anniversary as Premier in his Telegram post today (Jan 13).

Meanwhile, Datuk Rubiah Wang said in her Facebook posting that one of Sarawak’s proudest accomplishments is the state’s political stability under Abang Johari.

The Samarahan Member or Parliament (MP) noted that political stability in Sarawak is a pipe dream in other places.

She pointed out that the formation of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) by combining the four component parties of the former Sarawak Barisan Nasional (BN) has demonstrated that the significant choice made by the Premier is a very wise choice.

“We are thankful for the stability of our political environment and the fact that Sarawak does not frequently need to change governments, particularly when we begin to hold divergent views on how best to run the state.

“The fact that Sarawak’s political climate is calm is a resounding indication that our state can manage its own social and political system, and people from other regions should aspire to maintain a professional attitude at all times.

“There are times when we engage in politics, but we don’t need to do so constantly to the point where we neglect the duties and trust that the public has placed in us,” she said in her Facebook post.

She asserted that in most situations and settings, there should be an openness to accepting the opinions and ideas of other parties, including those who hold different political ideologies.

This is the culture that has been taught by the Premier, she said.

She expressed hope that Sarawak’s tranquillity and peace could be preserved and maintained indefinitely.

Both Dr Sim and Rubiah were present during the 2023 Premier’s Mandate ceremony at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here on Thursday (Jan 12).
