SIBU: Members of the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) have been urged to emulate their veteran, Datuk Dr Soon Choon Teck, who is said to be very loyal to the party.

Its president Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said, Dr Soon has remained with the party up until now, under all circumstances, no matter how difficult it is.

“I want our members to emulate and make Dr Soon their inspiration in serving the party. He contributed a lot to this state and the people when he served,” he said in his speech while attending Dr Soon’s 80th birthday celebration dinner on Thursday.

The Deputy Premier of Sarawak also said Dr Soon was a very dedicated and kind junior minister to Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg when they were together in the Ministry of Housing.

“When I said to Abang Johari I will be attending Dr Soon birthday, Premier also conveyed his wish and Happy birthday greeting to Dr Soon.

“This means, Dr Soon is always remembered, until now Abang Johari still remembers him. If he was not good during his service before, why would the Premier remember him,” he said.

The Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government also noted that Dr Soon’s leadership qualities are like a ‘big tree’ for the party that always protects and shares all the experiences it has with the new generation in SUPP.

“Dr Soon is always committed to the party regardless of the party’s performance and often gives opportunities to the new generation to serve in the party. This is Dr Soon, a person who loves the party very much and remains steadfast no matter what happens to SUPP.

“He is also not greedy and in fact encourages the new generation of the party to serve and lead the party. We as the new generation of this party are very proud of his struggle in the party. This Dr Soon should be an example to all of us,” he said.
