SRI AMAN: A local driver died on the spot after his pick-up truck skidded and crashed along KM58, Jalan Sri Aman-Sarikei yesterday (Apr 1).

Musa Mat, 56, lost his life at the scene while his front-seat passenger narrowly survived with injuries to his head and left arm,

Sri Aman police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said the accident happened at 9.56 am when the two were on the way from Kuching to Betong to work as labourers on the Pan Borneo project.

“Preliminary investigations showed that their vehicle had veered to the right lane, causing it to overturn.

“Tragically, Musa was ejected from the vehicle, causing him to sustain severe head injuries.

“He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from the Skrang health clinic and his body was taken to Betong Hospital,” he said.

Meanwhile, the surviving passenger, a 59-year-old man, was taken to Betong Hospital for further medical treatment.

Mathew said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
