KUCHING: A driver can thank his lucky stars for escaping a serious car crash with only injuries along Jalan Stutong this morning (Oct 1).
The accident happened around 5am when the Proton Wira is believed to have swerved off the road and crashed into a monsoon drain near a church.
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Tabuan Jaya station were deployed to the scene after receiving an emergency call to rescue a pinned driver.
However, they found that the driver was already extricated by passers-by from the vehicle before they arrived.
The driver was then taken to the hospital for medical attention. The extent of his injuries was not known.
The team only monitored the situation to ensure that it was safe before concluding the operation.
