KUCHING: The seats in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) remain unchanged despite the proposed merger between Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) and Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB).

According to Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, the proposed merger between the two parties needs some time to settle as there are strong personalities involved.

Though the seating arrangement of the House is at the discretion of the speaker under Standing Order 2, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) needs to sanction the merger, he said.

“If it is not sanctioned, then the status quo remains, but if it is sanctioned and PSB (assemblymen) are all taken in as fellow GPS members, then I have to review the seating arrangements.

“We will cross the bridge when it comes to it,” he said during a press conference at the DUN here today.

The DUN now has five opposition members and one Independent.

Three are from PSB, two from Democratic Action Party (DAP), and the Independent from Batu Lintang.
