Dwellers affected by pandemic given help

DALAT: Mukah division Resident Hamdiah Bakir visited Ulu Baoh near here last Thursday to gauge the situation and those who were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

She was accompanied by acting deputy Resident Shafrie Saili, Dalat district officer Kueh Lei Po, Mukah division Welfare Department officer Haslinda Supu, Dalat district police chief DSP Saga Chunggat, representatives from Malaysian Defence Force (APM) and People’s Volunteers Corps (Rela).

Hamdiah, who is also Mukah division Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) chairman also visited the roadblocks at Ulu Baoh. One was at the junction to Rumah Rantai longhouse and the other one was at a road leading to Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Ulu Baoh.

The DDMC contributed food items, drinks, hand gloves, facemasks and hand sanitisers to the frontliners manning the roadblocks.

During the visit, she and her team was briefed by the police manning one of the roadblocks.

Hamdiah said the roadblocks were assisted by people from nearby areas, who provided electric connection and drinks.

“The Disaster Management Committee really appreciates the assistance and cooperation given to frontliners on duty at the roadblocks,” she said.

She added the visit was also to monitor the flood situation at identified areas, including Rumah Simu longhouse and to deliver flood assistance as well as food supply for two weeks for the people affected by Covid-19 pandemic in the area.

She revealed a total of 972 food packets were distributed to 486 people affected by the pandemic.

According to her, Ulu Baoh has 19 persons tested positive for Covid-19 and were being treated at the hospital.

Ulu Baoh has 12 longhouses, of which four are located outside the cut-off road block/lockdown, namely Rumah Cina, Rumah Bajai, Rumah Meling and Rumah Rantai.

The eight longhouses under lockdown are Rumah Simu, Rumah Bihai, Rumah Agup, Rumah Ranggi, Rumah Sigah, Rumah Tinggi, Rumah Jawa and Rumah Umpang Ilai.
