ECO elects new president, announces conservation strategy for Sarawak

KUCHING: The Ecology Conservation Association (ECO) has elected Chew Kim Soon as the president of the association after hosting its first general meeting today (April 23).

According to a press release, during the meeting, the association announced its conservation strategy, which aims to protect wild animals, improve their living conditions in Sarawak, restore ecosystems, and commit to supporting the 17 sustainable development goals of the United Nations.

Chew Kim Soon said that the association will organise activities to raise public awareness of ecological protection, especially by providing opportunities for students to participate.

He also encourages individuals to be proactive in their daily lives and communities to promote a sustainable future for all living things.

The meeting also elected the board of directors of the association, including Myron Khoo Hock Ming as deputy president, Chan Kai Sheng as secretary-general, Hellene Lim as deputy secretary-general, Vivian Kam Hui Ling as treasurer, Doris Hiu Min Shan as deputy treasurer, Wayne Lee See Wee, Kenny Kueh Chow Wei, Catherine Lee Peh Yee as committee members, Audrey Kho Pi Yun, and Eunice Wong Ying Xin as appointed committee members.

“In a sustainable society, humans live in harmony with the natural environment, conserving resources for their future generations, so that everyone enjoys social justice and a high quality of life.

“Sustainability improves the quality of our lives, protects our ecosystem, and preserves natural resources for future generations,” the statement said.

ECO is a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting awareness of sustainable development and ecological protection and implementing effective conservation strategies.

The association will continue to contribute to the ecological environment and wildlife of the Sarawak region with a view to building a more sustainable future.
