MUKAH: Several educational building structures here are in dire need of repairs and required the attention of the government to fix them and new ones to be built.

Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine said one of them is the nursery building in Kampung Petanak Hilir which is deemed unsafe and poses a safety risk.

“We have discussed with the District Office and the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) on the proposal to build a new building and make it a shared building for the needs of the local community.

“We hope it gets the support of the JKKK and the community for the education development agenda,” he was quoted as saying in a news report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS).

Speaking at an appreciation ceremony of Tabika KEMAS for Mukah constituency held recently, he said early education at the KEMAS level is very important for children before they go to primary school.

In fact, KEMAS teachers, he said, have carried out their responsibilities well in educating the students to produce the best results.

Therefore, Royston sees the existence of KEMAS as still relevant and important as early childhood education institutions.

“One of the important elements for children is an environment that encourages children to learn.

“A good environment and educators will further the learning and teaching process which in turn provide a good experience in the process of early childhood education,” he added.

He also called on parents to play a proactive role in educating children, especially in building their own personality and avoid being involved in social ills.
