KUCHING: Eight items will be placed under the Deepavali Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMPP) 2022 which will come into effect starting Oct 20 until Oct 26.
The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs in its statement yesterday (Oct 17) said the implementation period was for seven (7) days and was in effect on four (4) days before the festival; one (1) day during the festival and two (2) days after the festival.
The eight items under the scheme are boned imported mutton; tomatoes; red chillies; coconut seeds (maximum price at wholesale level only); grated coconut (maximum price at retail level only); small red onions (India); imported red onions and dal nuts (Australia).
Price checks can be made through the ministry’s website at https://www.kpdnhep.gov.my .
“This implementation period is appropriate as it will create a win-win situation for both consumers and merchants.
“Consumers can enjoy reasonable prices and traders will be satisfied with the effective implementation period.
“The Deepavali Festival Maximum Price Scheme 2022 will enforced through the Price Control and Antiprofiteering Act 2022 which allows pricing to be made at the producer, wholesaler and retailer levels,” it said.
The ministry said that enforcement officers had been assigned in strategic locations such as in shopping malls.
The ministry further stressed that such strategy would enable enforcement and monitoring to be carried out more effectively. Immediate action could also be taken based on complaints and enforcement actions on traders in case of occurrence of non-compliance.
The price scheme will be made to the public through mass media, distribution of leaflets and installation of buntings and posters in strategic places such as public markets, supermarkets and hypermarkets.
