Eight nabbed for online gambling in ‘Ops Dadu’

KUCHING: Eight people, including a woman, were arrested for online gambling in a seven-day operation codenamed ‘Ops Dadu’.

Kuching OCPD ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the operation, carried out by the D7 branch of the Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Kuching district police headquarters, was held from Feb 6-12.

Eight raids were carried out in locations under the jurisdiction of the Gita police station.

“Seven men and a woman were arrested for carrying out illegal online gambling activities.

“Also seized were cash amounting to RM649, eight mobile phones as well as pieces of paper written with IDs and passwords,” he disclosed.

ACP Ahsmon said all of the suspects would be investigated under Section 4(1)(c) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which carries a fine of up to RM50,000 and a prison term of up to three years, if convicted.
