DEBAK: The 12th State Election (PRN12) must go on even if it has to be held under limited circumstances.

Parti Pesaka Bumiputerea Bersatu (PBB) Supreme Council member Mohammad Razi Sitam said, following the movement control order (MCO), the Election Commission (EC) was a little hesitant to hold elections.

“However, the term of the Sarawak State Assembly is coming to an end and PRN12 can be called any time from now even as we face Covid-19.

“I think if PRN12 is held in the near future, it will not be a problem with the small number of cases in the state,” he said at the Sarawak Kita Empun (SKE) programme in Saribas on Saturday.

The Saribas assemblyman explained that the final decision was left to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg on the advice of the National Security Council (MKN) and the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

Razi described PRN-12 as very important for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) because it is not just to win, but to win with a bigger majority.

“Not only Sarawak will be ours, but Saribas will also continue to be ours (GPS / PBB) forever.

“I am confident that Saribas will be a stronghold of the PBB in the upcoming state election. God willing,” he said.

Razi thanked the PBB Women’s movement for bringing the SKE to Saribas to raise the spirit of party members, especially women.

More than 400 PBB women members attended the event which was filled with discussions on the current political landscape, Sarawak’s rights, new campaign norms and dialogue sessions.

PBB Women deputy head cum Batang Lupar MP Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim, SKE chairman cum Kota Samarahan MP Rubiah Wang and a political secretary to chief minister, Dayang Nurfizawaty Abang Abdul Karim were also present.
