LUNDU: Over 1,000 youths and local folks from Lundu, Sampadi, Telok Melano and even from Kuching participated in the Sarawak Youth Tour (Jelajah Belia Sarawak) 2020 programme which was held at the Lundu Sports Complex recently.
Held from March 6 to 7, the programme was organised by Sarawak’s Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYSS) and officiated by Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and accompanied by Tanjung Datu Assemblywoman, Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu and to Ministry of Youth and Sport acting permanent secretary Nancy Haji Jolhi.
Among the activities held during the event were Townhall Session with Datuk Karim and Datuk Amar Jamilah, motivational talk by 2018 Sarawak Youth Icon winner, Qadri e-Sports, Miss Kebaya beauty pageant, autoshow, futsal competition and a mini concert which featured this year’s national Anugerah Juara Lagu (AJL) top performer, Hafiz Suip.
During the opening ceremony, Karim said the government had organised such initiatives to reach out to youths throughout Sarawak and aimed to foster better understanding on the various youth development programmes.
“This programme is aiming at enhancing the involvement of youths and associations in government-sponsored initiatives that revolve around the well-being of the youths and we also want to highlight, nurture and provide opportunities for our local youths to showcase their talents and potentials,” he said.
“The tour programme is also aimed at fostering good responsibility spirit, leadership quality, career development and volunteerism among our youths,” continued Karim.
The minister called on all members of the community to work together in the efforts to mould local youths to become successful leaders of the future and such efforts are needed more now in order to groom them to become the most suitable candidates.
