Encouraging response to youth programmes

TEN series of Youth Transformation programme organised by the Youth and Sports Ministry in collaboration with Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) which were carried out in 2019 saw the involvement of 1,053 youths.

Youth and Sports Assistant Minister Datuk Snowdan Lawan said this in reply to a question from Safiee Ahmad (GPS-Daro) on the youth development programmes planned to reduce social problems as well as empowering youths in the rural areas.

He said, “The ministry has planned a total of 110 youth development programmes and 142 sports development programmes throughout the state.

“Sarawak government has always collaborated with various state agencies, youth associations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to ensure that the programme runs smoothly.”

Among the programmes were Sarawak Youth Tour programme which focuses on increasing youth and associations’ involvement, sharpening and providing collaborative opportunities.

“As of today, the programme has brought together 14,775 youths in six constituencies. It will be held in 40 districts throughout Sarawak,” Snowdan said.
