SIMUNJAN: Parents play an important role in their children’s education, says Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris.

According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report, Awla stressed that parents should be more aware of the importance of education, especially in English proficiency, in facing today’s challenges.

“The use of English through mobile phone and television apps also needs to be exposed to the children to be able to master the language better.

“Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg also encouraged children to master English because it is an international language.”

Awla was speaking at the closing ceremony of a community programme at the Kampung Nanas multipurpose hall here, recently.

He added that nowadays, more children from rural areas held high positions in the government and private sectors and they would be able to help the government bring changes in the future.
