SIBU: The Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government will implement the local government (PBT) Transformation Plan 2.0, at the district councils to enhance the quality of their services.

Its deputy minister Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil said at the moment several town hall sessions have been organised to explain the objectives of the transformation plan to the local councils.

“I have engaged and did a town hall for the northern region in Miri in August as well as in the central zone, in September last year.

“I will engage with PBT in the northern zone and southern zone soon. After that, we will sit together and get feedbacks from all the PBTs,” he said when met by reporters after officiating at the swearing-in of Kanowit district councillors here yesterday (April 10).

Penguang said that some of the issues that will be taken into consideration are the councillor allowances as their tasks and responsibilities were greater due to several challenges such as climate change and the digitalisation era.

“We will also review all the outdated by-laws and ordinances which are no longer relevant and perhaps we will introduce a new one. And of course, revenue re-engineering, as the councils need more revenue in order to provide better services.

“We will also work together with other agencies towards providing more efficient services for the rakyat,” he said.
