SIBU: Parents of Primary 4 pupils are urged to enrol their children to Yayasan Sarawak International Secondary School (YSISS) in Sibu for it to begin its operations in 2026.

In making this call, Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee said he already requested for the school to be completed by next year and to operate the following year.

“I have requested them to complete (the school) next year so that in 2026, the school can begin its operations with Form 1 students.

“Therefore, I urge parents who have children in Primary 4 (this year) to recommend their children for admission to that school, which is set to become the best school in Sarawak..

“I am very saddened to know that only one student from Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Agama managed to enroll in YSISS,” he said.

He said this in his speech when officiating at the certificate and prize presentation ceremony for the Sekolah Agama Rakyat Madarsatul Islamiah and Tadika Lembaga Amanah Kebajikan Islam Sibu (LAKIS) Khatam Al-Quran programme at LAKIS Hall yesterday.

Currently, the construction progress for YSISS Sibu is at 25 percent. Besides Sibu, other YSISS are located at Petra Jaya, Semenggoh, Miri, and Bintulu. YSISS Petra Jaya had commenced operations in May 2022.

The introduction of the Yayasan Sarawak International Secondary School was aimed to produce skilled and qualified Sarawak graduates to compete in the global workforce.

In the same vein, Dr Annuar said the state government values education whereby numerous initiatives have been introduced by the government.

“Among them are local scholarships for low-income students, free uniforms, and tuition for Form 3, 4, 5, involving an expenditure of RM15 million.

“Much has been done, and importantly, I want to see parents in Sibu seize the opportunity for the future of our children and for them to ultimately succeed in their lives,” he said.
