KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg hopes that the appointment of civil servants are done based on merits to ensure that only the best are employed.

Abang Johari pointed this out to Public Services Commission of Malaysia (SPA) chairman Tan Sri Zainal Rahim Seman who led a delegation to call on the Premier at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today (Feb 27).

Zainal said he assured the Premier that such appointments were indeed being practised by the SPA.

“We appoint the best, especially those who have degrees from several renowned universities.

“We also explained to the Premier that before the applicants are called to attend the interview, we will get to know more about the candidates in terms of their abilities, competence and ability to become civil servants,” he said.

Also in the SPA delegation were deputy chairman Datuk Seri Jalil Marzuki, secretary Datuk Ikhbal Hanam Mukras and other members of the commission.
