KUCHING: Sarawak has the right to secede from Malaysia if there are serious breaches to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri James Jemut Masing (pic) said in regard to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s remark that action would be taken under the Sedition Act against those who called for Sarawak’s secession from Malaysia if they jeopardised public order and security.

“MA63 is an international agreement brokered by the United Nations, therefore, all parties must adhere to the principles attached therein,” he stressed.

He said if there was indeed no breach, Sarawakians certainly would not create trouble and cause public disorder.  “If there is public disorder, it will not be from Sarawakians,” he said.

The Parti Rakyat Sarawak president said if there had been breaches to MA63, the relevant authorities or Putrajaya, must amend this as soon as possible before the aggrieved party became discontented.  “When that happens, who do we blame?”
