MIRI: A former assistant engineer of Sarawak Electricity Supply Corporation (SESCO) claimed trial after he was charged for receiving bribes amounting to RM1,600 in 2019 and 2020.

The accused pleaded not guilty after a charge was read out in front of Judge Steve Ritikos.

According to the fact sheet, the accused was working as an assistant engineer at SESCO Miri and allegedly received bribes from seven electrical contractors registered under SESCO.

The accused failed to report on any of the money received which was an offence under Section 25(1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 and punishable under Section 25 (2) of the same act.

If convicted, the accused is liable to be fined up to RM100,000 or jailed up to 10 years or both for each of the charges.

The court then set June 30 for a re-mention for the case management.

Prosecuting Officer Kamsiah Ahmad appeared for the prosecution while the accused was represented by Shikh Rajjish.
