KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s goal of turning Sarawak into a high-income state by 2030 is being swiftly achieved by the Sarawak civil service (SCS).

State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki said that among other things, SCS is determined to visit the field more frequently to obtain opinions and feedback from the locals.

He asserted that the goal is to develop people-based policies more successfully.

“Therefore, we will ensure that the SCS consists of those with various skills and backgrounds to facilitate and encourage more effective engagement with stakeholders and the people.

“People in SCS need to listen better, among other things. They must exhibit empathy, responsibility, and a cooperative spirit,” he was quoted as saying in a news report by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) during the Premier’s Mandate ceremony 2023 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here, yesterday (Jan 12).

Abu Bakar emphasised that SCS must be persistent in matching the ability of the Premier to think of various new ways to utilise the resources available in the state for the benefit of the people of Sarawak, both now and in the future.

This is because SCS serves as the implementing body of the Sarawak government, he said.

“Representing the people of SCS, I promise that we will be more proactive, skilled and quick in accepting new things as well as new methods of implementation,” he said.
