KUCHING: The International Women’s Federation of Commerce and Industry Malaysia (IWFCIM) is welcomed by the state Welfare, Community Well-being, Women, Family and Children Development ministry as a strategic partner in developing women entrepreneurship in the state.

Its representatives made a courtesy call yesterday on Welfare, Community Well-Being, Women, Family and Children Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah at the new State Legislative Assembly building in Petra Jaya.

Fatimah said the partnership is timely as the ministry is in the process of bringing up its women entrepreneurs through e-commerce or e-Wanita which was launched by the chief minister during a state-level celebration of the International Women’s Day at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) last month.

“We are the level where we want our women to go global with their businesses, and today we welcome this organisation to be our strategic partner.

“This is another perfect platform where women can actually sell their products globally,” she told the press yesterday.

She then thanked the federation for the partnership which can help women in Sarawak to improve their socio-economic status and financial standing.

The federation’s president Datuk Elaine Teh reiterated that the international organisation was founded in Australia in 1992 when it was observed that women entrepreneurs needed to get together and network with the objectives of empowering women.

She said with support from Fatimah’s ministry, they would be able to organise more programmes to groom women entrepreneurs to go global.

Also present were Early Childhood Education and Family Development Assistant Minister Rosey Yunus, Women and Family Department director Noriah Ahmad, and the federation’s advisor Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim (who is also Batang Lupar MP).
