Fined RM2,000 for breaking car window

KUCHING: A young man was fined RM2,000  in default two months’ jail by the Magistrates’ Court here today for throwing stones at a car parked in a surau area and causing a rear window to break.

Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi sentenced the accused Taufik, 22, after he pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 427 of the Penal Code.

The car, a Perodua Axia, belonged to a 41-year-old man who suffered a loss of RM700 as a result of Taufik’s action.

The youth committed the offence at a surau in Kampung Astana, here, around 6.45 am on August 31.

According to the facts of the case, the complainant, fireman was informed by his wife, of the shattered rear window of his car.  

The complainant then made a police report for further action and investigation.

The fireman, who lived near the surau, had parked his car there.

A cake seller near the surau saw the accused throwing stones at the complainant’s car. He recognised the accused, who was nicknamed Topek and often seen wandering around the area aimlessly.

The case was handled by Prosecuting Officer Inspector Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
