Fined RM4,000 for having syabu

KUCHING: A 39-year-old local man was fined RM4,000 by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for possessing 1.51 grams of syabu.

Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali passed the sentence on Lu Hieng Hock after the charge was read out in front of him.

The court sentenced the accused to seven months’ jail if he failed to pay the fine.

According to the charge, he was caught in a vehicle parked in front of a house in Jalan Batu Kawa, around 11.50 am on February 24.

Therefore, the accused committed an offence under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 12 (3) of the same act for possession of dangerous drugs.

According to the facts of the case, during the incident, a police team from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department, IPK Sarawak arrested the accused who was in his vehicle on suspicion of being involved in drug activities.

Items such as three small transparent plastic packets were seized from the accused’s left hand.

The result of the investigation found that the item was a syabu type drug with a gross weight of 3.75 grams.

The case was handled by Prosecuting Officer Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
