KUCHING: A sports equipment store in Boulevard Shopping Mall, caught on fire early Sunday morning.
The State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received a distress call pertaining to the 7.03am blaze and despatched Batu Lintang firefighters to the scene.
Upon arrival, they found that the store’s counter was on fire and the sprinkler system had been turned on.
Security personnel could not enter the store as it was locked which forced to firefighters to break in to put out the fire.
It was reported that the fire damaged about 15 per cent of the store and did not cause any structural damage.
It was also said that the store’s automatic fire alarm monitoring control system (SPKA) was not functional and is not linked to the fire department’s operations centre.
The cause of the fire and the losses incurred are still under investigation.
