BINTANGOR: Eight houses were destroyed during a fire at Kampung Muhibbah here yesterday afternoon. The 1pm incident, which was believed to originate from one of the houses, left more than 40 residents homeless.

It is learned that six houses were completely destroyed while two houses were partially damaged.  Bintangor Fire Station chief, Nicholas Belulin said that with the help of Sarikei Fire Station, they rushed to the scene after receiving a call at 1.07 pm.

“The actual cause of the incident is still under investigation while the total number of victims is also being identified,” he said. The hot weather caused the fire to spread rapidly. However, no casualties were reported.

Meanwhile, Pemanca Suhaili Bujang said he would refer the matter to the Natural Disaster Committee. He added that anyone who would like to present contributions can do so to help ease the burden of the fire victims.

“It is understood that the victims were temporarily staying at their relatives’ homes pending assistance from relevant agencies. “This is the worst thing to happen here so far. I hope the victims will be patient,” he said.
