KUCHING: The Malaysia Fire and Rescue Department (MFRD) Sarawak is getting ready for the potential risk such as forest fires caused by the hot weather in Miri.

Its department director Datuk Khirudin Drahman said he went to the ground to assess the situation on-site in Miri.

“In view of the rising temperatures and hot weather in Sarawak, a survey involving Haliza Sedar, the representative of Naim Holdings Berhad, and relevant agencies, is being conducted to ensure early preparedness,” he said.

He said this after conducting a visit to the Tudan Observation Tower, Miri recently.

Khirudin also said that his presence was to ensure that all members carried out their duties proactively and were able to strengthen the department’s strategic plan.

“My presence with other members is to review the situation and be able to take an early approach to avoid past incidents of forest fires which happened in 2018 and 2019,” he said.
