KUCHING: The newly rebuilt Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Pulo, which will be relocated to the Darul Hana housing development area, is set to become the first smart primary school in Sarawak.

In revealing this, Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs and Kuching North City Commission), Datuk Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the old school was established in the 1990s.

“I had proposed for the school to be rebuilt and equipped with information and communications technology (ICT) facilities to become a smart school.

“It will be relocated to an area named Block 4 in the Darul Hana Housing Project. It will have new buildings equipped with IT technologies,” he told a press conference after his visit to the Darul Hana Housing project site on Monday (Sept 28).

Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also the Pantai Damai assemblyman, further emphasised the importance of having all these essential facilities with modern technologies to provide better education for the children in this area.

“That is why I am concerned over this matter and will discuss with involved parties’ efforts to provide the best education in this area,” he said.

Apart from SK Pulo, there are two other primary schools in Seberang Hilir area which had undergone reconstruction a few years back — SK Gersik and SK Matu Baru.

Abdul Rahman also pointed out that the construction of a new smart building with ICT facilities was ongoing for Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tun Abang Haji Openg.

“This additional building will accommodate Form Six students in the school,” he added.
