BINTULU: Five dirty food premises were ordered to close for operating in unsatisfactory conditions.

Divisional Health Officer Dr Melvin Chung said they were ordered shut for 14 days in accordance with Section 11 of the Food Act 1983 during the Clean Premises Integrated Operation on Aug 15-16.

According to him, during the operation as many as 13 bread and cake processing premises were inspected and ten compound notices for RM22,600 were issued to the premises owners and food operators for various offences.

“These include the presence of pests at the premises, food handlers not wearing head coverings, the premises being dirty and untidy, exposed food and not kept in closed containers as well as improper defrosting and placing food directly on the floor,” he said.

Dr Chung added that it is the responsibility of food owners and operators to ensure their premises are clean at all times as stipulated in the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009.
