Five nabbed for illegal possession of diesel worth RM1.43 mil

Marine policemen arrest five crew members including three foreigners for failing to produce any KPDN documents over the possession of diesel.

SIBU: Marine police arrested five crewmen including three foreigners for allegedly possessing diesel worth RM1.43 million without permission from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).

Approximately 200,000 litres of diesel is found illegally kept inside a cargo ship.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the arrest codenamed ‘Ops Taring Pensura’, was made in Tanjung Ensurai waters, Batang Rajang around 4 pm on Friday (Apr 28).

During a patrol at the river, the team had spotted a suspicious looking cargo ship and detained it for inspections.

The team found that the ship was operated by five men aged between 34 and 64.

“Further inspections also led to the discovery of 200,000 litres of diesel inside the cargo ship. Its estimated value is around RM1.43 million.

“The crew had failed to produce any documents to possess, store or carry controlled items or obtain special permission from KPDN,” he said.

Zulkipli pointed out the case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

All of the suspects together with the cargo vessel have been handed over to KPDN Sibu for further action.
