Five new clusters identified in state

KUCHING: Five new Covid-19 clusters were identified by the State Health Department yesterday.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the new clusters were the Luteng cluster in Telang Usan, the Po Ai cluster in Sri Aman, the Blimbing cluster in Bau, the Simpang Koko cluster in Sarikei and the Jalan Semariang cluster in Kuching.

It said the Luteng cluster was a community cluster involving a village under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) in Long Luteng, Telang Usan.

“Forty-four cases including the index case were positive,” said the SDMC in a statement yesterday.

The Po Ai cluster, it explained, was a community cluster   involving four longhouses under the EMCO in the Po Ai area near Sri Aman.

Of the 330 individuals who were screened, 103 cases including the index case were positive.

Meanwhile, the Blimbing cluster is a community cluster   involving a village, namely Kampung Blimbing, in Krokong, Bau.

“Twenty-two cases including the index case were positive, 18 were negative while seven cases are awaiting laboratory results,” explained the committee.

It added the Simpang Koko cluster was a community cluster involving four longhouses under the EMCO in Simpang Koko, Sarikei.

“Fifty-nine cases including the index case were positive,” it said.

The Jalan Semariang cluster was a workplace cluster   involving a supermarket located at Jalan Semariang, Petra Jaya near Kuching, said the SDMC.

“Of the 176 individuals who were screened, 36 including the index case were positive.

“All positive cases were referred to hospitals and low-risk treatment centres for isolation and further treatment,” it added.
