KUCHING: The locally produced ‘Floline 3W’ culvert by Weida Integrated Industries Sdn Bhd would be a cost effective replacement for concrete culvert to speed up the construction of roads and highways throughout the state.

According to Deputy Chief Minsiter Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing, Weida is producing its own local infrastructure building material products that can be utilised to speed up the infrastructure projects.

“It would benefit the construction company as it is cheaper and also cost-effective, and in terms of culvert development, the overall cost against concrete is slightly cheaper by about 40 per cent because the time factor to build it is shorter and the maintenance requires less work.

“Apart from that, they are a local company producing local products where the quality is not compromised, and we should make use of our local companies and let them grow in effort to hasten our state development,” said Masing during a press conference after a work visit to Weida Integrated Industries Sdn Bhd factories at Jalan Bako, here yesterday.

Masing also noted that Weida’s product, especially the ‘Floline 3W’ culvert, caught his attention to replace the usage of concrete culvert, which is heavy and time consuming to transport.

“The Weida’s products, especially the ‘Floline 3W’ culvert are made out of High-density Polyethylene (HDPE) which is lightweight, flexible and robust,” he said, adding just tell Weida what size and length is needed and they will produce it.

Meanwhile, Weida’s Group Executive Chairman Dato Lee Choon Chin said the Floline 3W HDPE pipe is nothing new as it has been used all over the world.

“This is not a new product, and it is being used in over 30 countries such as China, Korea, Japan, Us and many others.

“Even in Sarawak, the ministry and authorities have been receptive on the product, but we feel that it could have been more, with the advantages and benefits that it can provide to the local development,” said Lee.

Also present were political secretary to the Chief Minister Dato Sri Doris Sophia Brodie, Tamin Assemblyman Ir. Christopher Gira, JKR Director Zuraimi Sabki and MIDT permanent secretary Safri Zainuddin.
