Floodwaters in Kampung Long Bemang subside

The flood in Kampung Long Bemang has subsided.

MIRI: Floodwaters in Kampung Long Bemang in Ulu Baram began to subside by 7.35 am yesterday morning.

Heavy rain since July 9 had led Sungai Baram to overflow and cause flood in the low-lying areas, including Kampung Long Bemang which has 530 villagers.

A primary school and a health clinic were also affected by the flood.

According to Kampung Long Bemang volunteer fire brigade, the villagers were busy yesterday morning cleaning their houses and making some minor repairs.

As of yesterday, the floodwater level was recorded at 0.4 feet high, compared to 1.1 feet high on yesterday (July 11).

This is the ninth time that Kampung Long Bemang a Kayan longhouse is hit by flood.

The 103-door Kampung Long Bemang is the longest longhouse in the northern region and comprises four blocks namely Haleluyah, Hosana, Maranata and Calvary.
