Foreign student drowns in Sarawak River

KUCHING: A university student was found drowned after he allegedly fell into the Sarawak River today (Sept 18).

The unfortunate incident occurred near the iconic Floating Mosque by the Waterfront at around 3.55 pm.

The victim was a 21-year-old from Bangladesh.

Responding promptly to the emergency call, the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) deployed firemen from the Padungan station and the diving unit from the Batu Lintang station to the scene.

After an intense search effort, the victim was discovered at 5.56 pm, about three metres from the location where he had fallen.

His body was handed over to the police for further action.
