Four held in missing child probe

KUCHING: Police have picked up four suspects with previous convictions to assist in their investigation into the case of the missing four-year-old boy.

City police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah also said that police have established a task force to intensify efforts to search for the child.

“The suspects, two men and two women, age 24 to 46, were detained to assist with the case,” he said without elaborating.

“We found that the suspects have 17 criminal records, 14 which involved drugs, two property crimes and one commercial crime,” he said in a statement today.

Urine tests were conducted and all the suspects tested positive for methamphetamine.

On March 7, police received a report about missing boy, who is Chinese and aged four years old and nine months.

He was reported to have gone missing in a housing area at Jalan Daya, Bintawa.

Police have since opened two investigation papers, one on a missing person and one investigation paper under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.

Under this Act, the investigation will focus on negligence and neglect of the part of the caregiver of the child concerned.

Anyone who has information on the missing child has been urged to come forward to the nearest police station or call the investigation officer Insp Hasmah Abdul Jalil at 013-6852210.
