PUTRAJAYA: Four officers from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) were recently commissioned as expert and advisor in their respective special unit.

The four are Mohamad Meramit from the Hazardous Chemicals and Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Explosives (HAZMAT & CBRNe) team, Muhammed Mirza Dzalmira Miraj from Rapid Intervention Motorcycle (RIM), Zian Azizi Yusuf from the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) and Mohammad Asnan Led from the Special Tactical Operation Rescue Malaysia (STORM).

According to Muhammed Mirza, they were commissioned in conjunction with the Special Unit Convention at Bomba headquarters in Putrajaya on Wednesday (March 23).

The event was officiated by Bomba director-general Datuk Seri Mohammad Hamdan Wahid.

The objective of the convention was to strengthen the special units as well as to further enhance the department’s human resource and capability.

“The three-day convention involved the department’s five special units. A total of 79 officers of various ranks throughout the country attended the event.”

The recognition, said Muhammed Mirza, had motivated him further. He pointed out that it was crucial for him to be a good role model to his peers.

“Of course, I feel very proud and lucky to have been commissioned as an advisor for RIM in Sarawak.

“As a leader, I must set a good example for my team members. I hope it (recognition) will inspire me and my team members to continue to give our best to the public.”

Meanwhile, Sarawak Bomba director Datuk Khirudin Drahman stated the commissions were indeed a testimony of the total commitment from the teams and leaders.

“This is in line with the Dasar Kebombaan dan Penyelamatan Negara 2021-2030 with regard to upgrading human resource and capital towards fire safety and rescue.

“The convention gives recognition to talents among the special units. It also serves as a benchmark in competency.

“It is an ongoing programme that creates positive competition among the officers to do their best.”

Khirudin pointed out that Sarawak Bomba had many talents, especially on search and rescue (SAR) in the wilderness.

“This capability and specialty are something that other states do not have. Sarawak has dense jungles, forests, swamps, caves, lakes and rivers with different kinds of wild animals.

“These are big challenges that we have to prepare for. Sarawak Bomba is always ready to share with other states in developing integrated SAR teams and special unit teams.”
