KUCHING: Police apprehended four men on suspicion of being actively involved in motorcycle theft during four separate raids conducted across the city last Thursday.

Kuching district police deputy chief, Superintendent Merbin Lisa, announced that a combined police team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) as well as officers from Gita Police Station and Central Police Station, apprehended all suspects through intelligence-led operations.

“Initial investigations revealed that the four suspects, aged between 31 and 38, are believed to be involved in three cases of motorcycle theft here, specifically in Gertak Road and Metrocity area,” he said in a statement today.

Police confiscated two motorcycles, along with their keys, a motorcycle fuel tank, and a helmet that had been reported missing in Kuching.

Additionally, he noted that urine tests indicated three of the suspects had tested positive for drugs (amphetamine/methamphetamine) and had previous records related to drug offences, property crimes, and violent crimes.

“All cases are currently under investigation according to Section 379A of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of imprisonment ranging from one to seven years, in addition to possible fines, upon conviction.
