KUCHING: Oha! Gawai, the much-awaited festival, has arrived. The wishes and greetings exchanged among people stand as a testament to the enduring spirit of unity, love, and harmony that characterises this festive season. Gawai is a time for reflection, celebration, and fostering strong connections that lie at the heart of this joyous occasion.

I extend my heartfelt Gawai wishes to everyone, regardless of their location or occupation. Gawai festivities hold a special place in our hearts, but it becomes incomplete when our beloved ones cannot join us due to work commitments. I understand this personally, as I have a sibling who has been away from home for years due to work obligations during every festive season. I sincerely suggest making time to visit your Dayak friends, gathering together to share meals and drinks, reminisce about the past, and create cherished memories.

I wish for the well-being and safety of all our family members and relatives. To those traveling back to their hometowns, I hope for a safe journey in both directions. For those unable to join us this time, please remember that it’s alright, and perhaps we can celebrate together in the years to come. The most important thing is to always take care of yourselves, so we can have the opportunity to celebrate Gawai every year. Ohhha!

I would like to take this opportunity to wish a Happy Gawai to all who are celebrating. May this celebration strengthen the bonds with our beloved families even further. Let’s plan and organise the events and activities that we missed last year, so we can make them happen this year. To friends near or far, please exercise caution while traveling back to your hometowns, ensuring a safe journey and alleviating worries for those eagerly awaiting your arrival. Finally, Selamat Hari Gawai Dayak, Gayu Guru Gerai Nyamai, Lantang Senang Ngerja Pengawa, Chelap Lindap Nguan Menua. Bertuchung baka bukit, Bekebung baka langit, Bepunchak baka Jala, Bulih reta bulih tengkira!
