KUCHING: The three candidates of different political parties who will be standing in the Stampin parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election (GE15) have pledged to deliver their best if elected.

The election will see a three-cornered fight between Democratic Action Party’s (DAP) Stampin incumbent Chong Chieng Jen, Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) Lo Khere Chiang, and Parti Bumi Kenyalang’s (PBK) Lue Cheng Hing, who will contest under the Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) banner.

Chong, when speaking to reporters after the completion of the nomination process at the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) nomination centre today (Nov 5), said DAP will continue with their party struggle and to fight for a better Malaysia despite the party’s setback in the last 12th state election.

“We do not give up,” he said.

He also said the GE15 is a battle of two fronts with regard to economic policies and having good governance and fighting corruption.

When asked how confident he is in retaining his seat, Chong said he leaves it up to the people in Stampin to decide.

On whether this election is his biggest challenge, Chong said he sees every election as a tough challenge.

Meanwhile, Lo, who is also the Batu Kitang assemblyman, said his plan is to work harder when asked on his strategies to wrest the seat from Chong.

“The challenge now is to convince our people to understand the struggle of GPS.

“And GPS is the only answer to Sarawak’s quest, for all our rights and to protect Sarawak rights,” he said.

As for Lue, if he wins the seat, he said he wants to bring more development to Stampin and Sarawak as a whole.

“I think for Stampin, there are many developments that are very outdated. I think we have to really focus on improving the infrastructure. There is much more room to improve,” he said.

When asked about his campaign strategies, he said he will campaign by approaching the people from house to house, distributing leaflets and others.
