Get your hands busy during MakersMeet 2019

KUCHING: The annual Sarawak State Library MakersMeet 2019 programme will be going big this year with more fun and exciting workshops and activities.  The programme will be held from Nov 2 to 3 from 10am to 5pm and welcomes members of the public to experience hands-on activities such as 3D printing, woodworks, arts and craft, gardening, baking and others.

According to the library’s deputy chief executive officer Arpah Adenan, all workshops are free and members of the public of all ages are welcome to join.

She said the MakersMeet programme, which gathers makers from various areas, aims to create a platform for innovators, creators, entrepreneurs and local talents from Sarawak to build a diverse network and showcase their products. 

“At the same time, participants will be able to learn, createsomething and be their own entrepreneur,” she said during a press conference at the library’s complex yesterday. 

On the event, she said the library has collaborated with its organising partners which are the US Embassy, Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA), Education Department, Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Bumiputera Sarawak (Tegas), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), Politeknik Kuching, Chumbaka, Galaxy, Toclan Agrotech Company, Port Dangor, Sarawak Naïve Art Gallery and Fun Art Club.

“The makers movement, which started in 2016, saw an overwhelming response from the public last year with over 4,000 participants taking part in the event. 

“This year, we are focusing more on the workshops aside from the exhibitions and we are targeting more than 5,000 participants,” she said.
