SIBU: Personnel from the General Operations Force (GOF) will be deployed to help police in the state monitor the upcoming state election, which will be held anytime soon.

This was announced by Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner Datuk Fisol Salleh during a working visit to Sibu district police headquarters (IPD) here, on Monday (Nov 30).

It was his first visit to Sibu after being appointed as the new Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner on Nov 17.

“We will utilise personnel from the police, GOF, and other agencies in the state as we do not want to involve personnel from outside Sarawak.

“If that is not enough, there is a possibility that we will ask for help from the Sarawak Marine Police, Police Training Centre (Pulapol), as well as auxiliary police officers,” he said.

On his visit to all IPDs in the state in the near future, Fisol explained it is to ensure that preparations are in place to tackle disasters and the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Although the pandemic seems to be slowing down in Sarawak, teams will be sent to continue monitoring the public’s compliance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs).

“Monitoring teams should ensure that SOPs are always a priority in helping the government curb the virus’ transmission,” he added.

Fisol’s arrival at the Sibu IPD was welcomed by Sibu police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit along with his deputy Supt Collin Babat.
