GOF seizes RM312,000 worth of fags, beers

MIRI: The General Operations Force (GOF) 12th Battalion arrested a local man for alleged involvement in the illegal trade of contraband cigarettes and beers in a premises at Technology Park, Permy on Tuesday.

Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu in a statement said the arrest was made at around 10.30 am in an operation dubbed ‘Ops Kontraban’.

“Inspections led to the seizure of assorted branded duty-not-paid cigarettes and beers inside the premises, estimated to be valued at RM312,000.

“The 26-year-old suspect is currently placed in Miri central police lock-up for further action,” he said.

Alexson stated that the case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.

In light of this, the public are advised against participating in or supporting the purchase and sale of untaxed goods as strict actions will be enforced against individuals involved in such activities.

They are also urged to procure supplies from legitimate distributors and report any suspicious activities to the police.
