BETONG: The Sarawak government is always committed in ensuring that the level of education in the state continues to be productive.

According to a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS), Betong MP Dr Richard Rapu said this is because education is very important to all students and is a key towards achieving a better life.

He said this when speaking at the closing ceremony of Betong Education Fair 2023 at Dewan Panglima Rentap, recently.

The one-day programme was packed with a variety of content such as educational performances, short-term course activities in making bread, bread pudding, lasagna, E-Sport competitions, sales booths, affordable laptop promotions and also exhibitions by several government agencies.

He said that the efforts made by the organising committee were aimed at providing exposure and information related to educational and career opportunities.

“For SPM and STPM graduates, learning opportunities are not only for outstanding students. Now the opportunity is open according to the suitability and ability of each student.

“A good education leads to a better life,” he said.

In the meantime, he said, student success cannot be measured through the chosen major, but depends on the ability to master the major.

Therefore, he called on students to choose a suitable and accurate major.

“Not on the basis of interest alone, but also on consideration of the future job market.

“The main reason in difficulty to get a job is the choice of the study field that is not a requirement in the job market or there were lots of graduates from the field,” he said.
