BINTULU: The win by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the Jepak by-election is an indication of the community’s acceptance of the Sarawak Government’s planned development policies for Bintulu.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that the newly elected Jepak assemblyman, Iskandar Turkee, will continue the initiatives laid out, especially focusing on the Jepak Jaya masterplan initially proposed by the late Datuk Talib Zulpilip.

“This victory is a sign that Bintulu people support GPS to further improve the development in Bintulu, including the Bintulu Port which should be handed back to Sarawak.

“We will make Bintulu an industrial city model, complete with facilities that can bring many more investments to Sarawak,” he said in a press conference after the announcement of the Jepak by-election results at the Bintulu Civic Centre last night (Nov 4).

In light of GPS’ victory, Abang Johari also expressed his appreciation to everyone involved in the Jepak by-election, especially the Election Commission (EC) and the security team for ensuring the smooth and flawless management of the election process.
