KUCHING: Three new Covid-19 clusters were declared by the State Health Department yesterday.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the Sungai Sebetan cluster was a community cluster involving a house and a longhouse located at Batu 5, Jalan Engkudu-Peligong, Sungai Sebetan in the Saratok district.

“Of the 101 individuals who were tested, 45 were positive including the index case, 55 were negative and one is still awaiting result.

“All positive cases were admitted to the Saratok Hospital, the Betong Hospital and Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) in Betong for isolation and further treatment,” said the SDMC.

The Sega cluster is also a community cluster involving a few families residing at Kampung Sega in the Serumbu area of the Bau district.

“Of the 61 people who were screened, 17 of them including the index case were positive, 28 were negative while 16 others are still awaiting their laboratory results.

“The positive cases were admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital and the PKRC under it,” it added.

The committee said that the Industri 121 Kuala Baram cluster was a workplace cluster involving the workers’ quarters of a plywood factory that was under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) in Kuala Baram, Miri.

“Of the 221 individuals who were screened, 132 including the index case were positive, 60 were negative while 29 others are still waiting for their results. 125 of the positive cases were not Malaysians.

“All positive cases were admitted to the Miri Hospital and the PKRC under it,” added the SDMC.

The committee also declared the end of two clusters, namely, the Hulu Spaoh cluster in the Betong district and the Jalan Airport cluster in the Miri district after no cases were recorded within 28 days.

As of Monday, out of the 98 active clusters in Sarawak, 12 had recorded 238 new cases.
