SIBU: Those badly affected by the recent storm here should apply for assistance from the Sibu service centre.

Sibu MP Oscar Ling said that the assistance can be applied from April 10 to April 14 at his service centre from 9 am to 4 pm.

“Our deadline is until this Friday. So, make sure you come before Friday. I think this is only part of the assistance from my office. The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) is also assisting victims, and those affected are encouraged to seek assistance there too.

Ling speaks to the residents.

“This is only part of my contribution to the victims in my area. If you are in Sibu, you can come and see me.

“If you are a registered voter in the Lanang constituency, you can go to Alice Lau’s office to apply. She is helping victims too,” he said when met by reporters at his service centre today.

Ling stressed that the maximum amount of assistance that will be given out is RM1,000 and it depends on the damages and losses faced by the victims.

“We will do the registration and categorise the damages by accessing the photos they show us of the damage to their homes.

“Later on, we will go to the site to verify the damage to their homes and after verification, we will hand out the assistance accordingly,” he said.

Asked about the duration process for the victims to receive the funds, Ling said it will  depend on the severity of the damage.

“The process (will take) a few days only. If (your case) is easy to determine, for example, the roof probably flew off entirely, then the assistance might be within a few days,” he said.

Meanwhile, on the exact figure of residents affected, Ling said that SDMC is still compiling all the information.

“They are still compiling the list. I will get the list from them,” he said.
