MIRI: The effort to ensure only genuine locals posses personal documents is a priority on Telang Usan Assemblyman Dennis Ngau’s agenda.

“It doesn’t matter whether we go deep into the interior of Telang  Usan or in cities or town centres. We will response to calls especially from our underprivileged people who seek help with regards to their application for personal documents.

“The Penan family we served came from Long Beku Ulu Baram. The husband works as a grass cutter while the wife can hardly move out of the house due to her small children.

“The name of girl we helped is Hana Thomas, born on 14 November, 2015.  Her parents’ marriage certificate was issued with the help of a local Penghulu but lately the government has changed the system which requires a married couple to re-register their marriage with the District Office using the new system.

“Due to this new requirement it has made Hana’s parents’ marriage unrecognised by the National Registration Department when her parents tried to apply for Hana’s birth certificate.

“With her family facing financial difficulty it was a struggle for the parents to pursue Hana’s  birth certificate application,” Dennis said, adding that together with the Head of JPN Miri’s mobile unit they went to see the Penan’s family upon receiving information about their predicament about a week ago.

“With Head of JPN Miri’s mobile unit Encik Affrizan Bujang and his team all these struggles have produced results and a good number of our rural Baram people have now received their personal documents,” Dennis said.
