A total of 90 children were honoured in the third Singgah Sungkei (breaking of fast) programme at the residence of Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng and Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajah Norkiah located in Sri Impian, Jalan Temenggong, Telaga Air, Kuching on 10th June.

They consisted of 70 residents from Rumah Kanak-Kanak Toh Puan Hajah Norkiah (formerly known as Rumah Kanak-Kanak Kuching) and 20 residents of the Ajibah Abol Children’s Home, Sri Aman.

According to the organiser of Singgah Sungkei 2017 and the President of the New Sarawak Tribune and Utusan Sarawak Welfare Club, Madinah Ahmad Hipeni in her brief speech, “Singgah Sungkei and Singgah Sahur are two programmes that were created and founded jointly by the New Sarawak Tribune and Utusan Sarawak Welfare Club and Damashi V.I.P Motorsports Recreational Club from Petra Jaya three years ago.

“This is our third season of the programme in our efforts to foster better relationships, seek the blessings of Ramadan and to get closer to different communities through Ramadan experience.”

Moreover, Madinah explains that the programme gave early exposure and experience to the volunteering students and non-Muslim youths who participated in the Sahur session with the poor, and also to do charity works sincerely, not only on normal days but also during Ramadan where you can easily be sleep-deprived.

The event was graced by the presence of former Tuan Yang Terutama Negeri, Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng and Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajah Norkiah.

“Alhamdulillah, a big thank you to both our Nenda (grandparents),Tun Salahuddin and Toh Puan Norkiah for the cooperation and trust given to us to organise this Singgah Sungkei programme and also officiating the Singgah Sahur convoy that started from their home right after the Tarawih prayers”.

Madinah also would like to thank Batu Kitang Assemblyman, Lo Kher Chiang who sponsored a bus trip to transport 70 children from Kuching to go shopping for clothes and shoes with Toh Puan Norkiah as well as to go break their fast in Jalan Temenggong.

Also present were the sponsors, Sharifah Azizah Wan Mohammad (7eleven Sdn Bhd), Zairal Zainal (Wings Motor Gang Society Club Sarawak), Abang Dadzli bin Abd Fauzi (Grabcar), Zulkiflie Ibrahim (Ibrahim Perfume), Amirah John and husband (D ‘Zarea Skincare), Muhammad Adib (Maestro Swiss Co., Ltd. c / o DKSH Malaysia Sdn Bhd), Sallemi Ahmad (Golden Arm Services), Syed Hazrul Afif bin Syed Ahmad Tirmizi (The Ninetys Image), Mohd Al-Faatzie Syaza (The Ninetys Squad), representatives of BJ Studio Enterprise, ATS Sound System, the organising committee of the event from New Sarawak Tribune and Utusan Sarawak Welfare Club , volunteers, principals and escorts from Rumah Kanak-Kanak Kuching and Children’s Home Ajibah Abol Sri Aman.
Among the activities held that night were doa recital, presentation of goods and duit raya from the organisers and sponsors, souvenir presentation to the sponsors involved, signing of the programme poster, Maghrib prayers, a short tazkhirah (sermon), ‘Isha and tarawih prayers, and the flagging off of the convoy by Tun Salahuddin and wife Toh Puan Norkiah.
