KUCHING: i-CATS University College is looking forward to fostering collaboration with universities in China.

Its Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Shahren Ahmad Zaidi Adruce said it can this way benchmark its programmes with many similar programmes in China universities.

“Through these collaborations, we can share academic expertise, carry out reciprocal research and co-publish in reputable journals.

“On this note, we would like to request that i-CATS UC be recognised and accredited by the Ministry of Education of China.

“This accreditation will enable us to open our doors to Chinese students and would solidify our nations’ friendship,” he said during an official visit by the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing to i-CATS UC here on Sunday.

Dr Shahren added that in the pursuit of this possibility, the university college would waste no time working on a special package for Chinese students to join i-CATS programmes.

“Though we are small, we have a sincere soul and a big heart to care for our students and groom them to be future-ready leaders with hearts and souls for prosperity, health, happiness and care for the ageing universe.

“With that, we at i-CATS UC especially look forward to welcoming and hosting students from China either as full-time students or on a short-duration basis.

“We can prepare a special programme with a minimum of two weeks, this programme will not only provide students from China or other parts of the world with an opportunity to learn new knowledge and skills taught by Sarawak’s best academics but will allow them to experience Sarawak culture and heritage through participation in community outreach programmes together with local students.

“They will have the opportunity to visit our longhouses, historical and cultural places, and be engaged in the local urban and remote communities which will surely be an extraordinary and unforgettable experience,” he added.

Ouyang was accompanied by Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kuching, Xing Weiping during the visit.
